Experiences

What happens between rounds: wine, the supra, and the oldest places in the country.

Chateau Mukhrani

Georgia's first royal chateau, 35 minutes from Tbilisi. The estate has made wine since 1878.

The tour starts in the nineteenth-century brick cellars under the palace, goes up through the palace rooms, and ends with a tasting of the estate's wines at a barrel among the vines.

The supra

A supra is a Georgian feast. The tamada, the toastmaster, leads the table through a long run of toasts, and the dishes keep coming.

Ours come with polyphonic singing and live folk dance, performed at the table.

Tbilisi and Mtskheta

A guided walk through Old Tbilisi: the carved wooden balconies, the sulphur baths of Abanotubani and the streets under Narikala fortress.

Then out to Mtskheta, the ancient capital, where the Jvari monastery stands on a hill above the meeting of two rivers.
